Good news from NY…
ALBANY, N.Y. — Same-sex marriages legally performed elsewhere will be recognized in New York in response to a state court ruling this year, Gov. David Paterson’s spokeswoman said Wednesday.
State agencies, including those governing insurance and health care, must immediately change policies and regulations to make sure “spouse,” “husband” and “wife” are clearly understood to include gay couples, according to a memo sent earlier this month from the governor’s counsel.
Gay marriage is not legal in New York, and the state’s highest court, the Court of Appeals, has said it can only be legalized by the Legislature. But the memo, based on a Feb. 1 New York Appellate Division court ruling, would recognize the marriages of New Yorkers who are legally wed elsewhere.

Or why the McCain camp is ignoring Michelle Malkin. Didn’t she get canned from Fox News too?

Update: Crooks and Liars has discovered that Meghan McCain may be a Terrorist Sympathiser Too!
According to an e-mail received from his campaign this morning, “Senator Cornyn is dedicated to providing our troops and their families with the best benefits possible, consistent with the need to strengthen recruitment and retention in our all-volunteer military.”.
And yet, Cornyn was one of just 22 Senators to oppose the New GI Bill that passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, and is supported by most leading veterans organizations. But that’s not all, Bush has threatened to veto the bill, and yesterday Cornyn signaled his support for a veto that would block expanded benefits for veterans.
How is that supporting the troops? Supporting our troops is about more than photo opportunities and speeches.

WENCHUAN, China – China stood still Monday in mourning over tens of thousands of earthquake victims, and the government appealed for more international aid to cope with the country’s deadliest disaster in a generation.
Construction workers, shopkeepers and bureaucrats across the bustling nation of 1.3 billion people paused for three minutes at 2:28 p.m. — exactly one week after the magnitude 7.9 quake hit central China.
Air-raid sirens and the horns of cars and buses sounded in memory of the dead.

We were walking through the airport in Shanghai at 2:28 pm today, and stood still with Nhut’s coworkers and heard the horns and sirens.
Rejecting religion-based bigotry, should not be confused with Judicial Activism.
“The architects of our federal and state Constitutions understood that widespread and deeply rooted prejudices may lead majoritarian institutions to deny fundamental freedoms to unpopular minority groups, and that the most effective remedy for this form of oppression is an independent judiciary charged with the solemn responsibility to interpret and enforce the constitutional provisions guaranteeing fundamental freedoms and equal protection. “

…and why Cornyn needs to go.
Earlier this week there was a post at Americablog encouraging readers to Support Rick Noriega from Texas for US Senate with a link to ActBlue to contribute to Noriega’s campaign.
Daily Kos posted about their support for Noriega in December of last year. And Firedoglake had a blog post up in August of last year introducing Rick Noriega and urging readers to support him at ActBlue as well.
I was reminded why this race is so important by an email from Senator Cornyn’s campaign this morning. You remember Senator Cornyn, he’s the guy who can always be counted on to put GOP interests above the interests of America and above the interests of Texas. Well, his email included this gem: “After a small group of activist California Supreme Court justices invalidated a voter ban on gay marriage, Senator Cornyn renewed his call for a Federal Marriage Amendment to the Constitution.”
Obama:
Barack Obama has always believed that same-sex couples should enjoy equal rights under the law, and he will continue to fight for civil unions as President. He respects the decision of the California Supreme Court, and continues to believe that states should make their own decisions when it comes to the issue of marriage.
Clinton’s spokesperson:
“Hillary Clinton believes that gay and lesbian couples in committed relationships should have the same rights and responsibilities as all Americans and believes that civil unions are the best way to achieve this goal. As President, Hillary Clinton will work to ensure that same sex couples have access to these rights and responsibilities at the federal level. She has said and continues to believe that the issue of marriage should be left to the states.”
McCain:
“John McCain supports the right of the people of California to recognize marriage as a unique institution sanctioning the union between a man and a woman, just as he did in his home state of Arizona. John McCain doesn’t believe judges should be making these decisions.”
California’s top court overturns gay marriage ban

SAN FRANCISCO – In a monumental victory for the gay rights movement, the California Supreme Court overturned a voter-approved ban on gay marriage Thursday in a ruling that would allow same-sex couples in the nation’s biggest state to tie the knot.
Domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage, the justices ruled 4-3 in an opinion written by Chief Justice Ron George.
Outside the courthouse, gay marriage supporters cried and cheered as news spread of the decision.
“Our state now recognizes that an individual’s capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual’s sexual orientation,” the court wrote.
The city of San Francisco, two dozen gay and lesbian couples and gay rights groups sued in March 2004 after the court halted San Francisco’s monthlong same-sex wedding march.
“Today the California Supreme Court took a giant leap to ensure that everybody — not just in the state of California, but throughout the country — will have equal treatment under the law,” said City Attorney Dennis Herrera, who argued the case for San Francisco.
To answer Matt’s question in the comments… The reason there were no pictures with the top down was because the windows were tinted by the dealer a day or so before delivery, and we had to wait for the tint to dry before putting the windows down. When you press the button to put the top down, the first step in the process, is to drop all four windows, then move the top. On top of that, Nhut was out of town for the weekend, picking up the dogs at his parents’ house and bringing them back to Austin, and I was waiting for him to get back. Anyway, tonight we put the top down, and took a few pictures and video, most of which I’ve posted in the gallery, with a few highlights here.

I’m sure everyone has at least heard of “As The World Turns”. You’ve may also have heard about the flap over the gay storyline concerning Luke and Noah.
Well, Procter and Gamble are currently taking a phone poll regarding the issue. I just called in myself, it’s literally one VRU prompt on whether you’re comfortable with the story line or not. They don’t ask any personal information, you don’t even speak to an operator, it’s all automated. It’s a toll free call and it will only takes about 30 seconds.
