Travel Plans

Posted by Stevious in General, ... | 07.27.2003 - 10:21 am

I finalized my travel plans for mid-August. I will be heading home to San Jose on August 14th, and checking in to the office there for a couple days, and seeing what kinds of things the house and dogs need since I’ve been gone since the end of May. I think I’ll be bringing my blades home with me, and do some skating along the Coyote Creek trail, just to see what it’s like, maybe even take Joe and Sidney with me.

On the 18th, I’ll be heading off to Singapore to see Nhut (yay). I’m flying on AA through Tokyo, then on JAL to Singapore. I’ve been chatting with my friend Din in Malaysia, and I’m planning to take a night train with Nhut from Singapore to Kauala Lumpur for the Malaysian Independece celebration weekend. We’re scheduled to fly back through Tokyo to San Jose on the 2nd of September, and I should be back in Boston on or after the 3rd of September.

Stuff and stuff

I was like three weeks overdue for a haircut, and I finally got motivated and went to the University Barber shop on Comm Ave. I wound up paying $14, which seems kind of high compared to Kim’s Hair and Nails on Tully Road in San Jose, where a haircut is still only $6. But I needed it cut bad, sine I was starting to get shaggy -) . It was a nice walk there and back anyway.

Afterwards, I went up to City Sports to pick up a pair of shorts for blading… and then I went out blading for the afternoon. I wound up running into two coworkers from Extreme Blue who were biking along the esplanade. Other than that it was kind of a lonely afternoon, and I was glad to have had my sunglasses on. I think I was out skating for about three hours from around 4:30 to 7:30.

I went for dinner with a friend in Chinatown. We went to the Taiwan Cafe, which has some really big rice plate dishes for $4.50, amazingly cheap, and pretty good too. I saw another coworker from Extreme Blue there too. After dinner we met a few more friends and went to Club Cafe, which was interesting, but I wound up going home when the group decided to change venue. I was pretty tired from blading all afternoon. I did stop off at JP Licks homemade ice cream shop on Newbury Street on the way home to the dorm, and treated myself to a 2-scoop cup, yum!

I think I’m going to take a rental car to NY for the IBM leadership conference at the Palicades briefing center this week… that way I can stop off at IKEA in NJ on the way back on Friday, and get the piece of furniture I want for the new apartment.

Not sure if I should bike or blade today… my lanundry is all clean from yesterday, and there’s not much else to do. Oh, I suppose I could do some food shopping, huh…

Speaking of shopping, add this Nikon camera to Nhut’s list of things to buy. It’s got WiFi capability for transferring the files/pictures to an ftp site as you take them. Very cool.

I’ve been busy as hell… John Patrick stopped by the Extreme Blue lab, which was cool. He gave a great explanation of why he’s so hot on Wi-Fi to the interns and staff. I bought a pair of roller blades on Sunday, and I’ve been riding or blading every day.

I started to write an entry here a million times, I swear. But I kept getting distracted. So, this week was 4th of July weekend, did a lot of stuff and took some pictures too. Boston has some really great 4th of July celebrations. More later, I SWEAR!
